Since the 80’s the island of Madeira off Portugal has been considered one of the best places in the World’s oceans to catch a grander Blue Marlin.
I am Captain Nuno Goncalves and I would like to welcome you to the opportunity to fish with us on ‘Blue Makaira’; a Big Game fishing boat working from Calheta, Madeira.
Madeira, a European island in the mid-Atlantic, is renowned for producing some of the best ‘Big Game fishing’ the World has to offer. The very size of the fish are the subject of dreams, with the average Atlantic Blue Marlin caught from our water being over 650lbs, and one in ten being a Grander, a fish of over 1000lbs. The records speak for themselves; Madeira winning the ‘Blue Marlin World Cup’ five times since its inception.
On the 4th July 2016 Captain Nuno captained Blue Makaira to win the ‘Blue Marlin World Cup’ with a Blue Marlin of 983lbs.Incredibly, this fish was the fourth-largest ever caught in World Cup history, surpassed only by the three thousand-pound-plus “granders” caught in 2010, 2004 and 1993. In another notable twist, Blue Makaira’s Capt. Nuno was the also on the winning boat for the 2015 World Cup.
In addition to the great Blue Marlin fishing found off the coast of Madeira, there is also White Marlin, Spearfish, Big Eye Tuna, Blue Fin Tuna, Albacore, Dorado and Wahoo to be caught, all great sport, in this spectacular Big Game Fishing destination.
